3 Hit Shows With Recent Cast Departures

By Ashley Lenahan on July 12, 2017

Hollywood and the shows produced there are in a constant state of change. This is reflected in the ever-shifting schedule and makeup of various television programs. Below is a list of some recently announced changes in cast rosters to anticipate from a few of television’s leading programs.

1. Saturday Night Live

The recent conclusion of Saturday Night Live’s 42nd season brought with it the departure of cast members Bobby Moynihan, Vanessa Bayer, and Sasheer Zamata.

Moynihan, while never a lead on the show, leaves behind the longest legacy as he served as a cast member on the hit NBC program for a nine-year period. He is best-known for his portrayal of “Drunk Uncle” along with his side role in an array of other skits.

Bayer follows close behind as she was part of the SNL team for seven years. She too performed a variety of roles, including that of a Miley Cyrus impression and Jacob the Bar Mitzvah Boy.

Zamata, most well-known for her role as a stand-up comic, was with the show for only four seasons. While she was not often featured as a key player in sketches, she maintained a strong presence as a side character on the show.

The cast roster for SNL’s 43rd season will not be released until closer to the fall premiere. Yet, fans of the show can expect to see some new faces as well as (hopefully) many remaining familiar ones.

2. Once Upon a Time

Six major cast members of the hit ABC fantasy series Once Upon a Time will not be returning for the show’s seventh season. Among those leaving is Jennifer Morrison who portrays the show’s lead protagonist, Emma Swan.

In addition to Morrison’s departure, the series’ original cast members Ginnifer Goodwin, Josh Dallas, Jared Gilmore, and Emile de Ravin plus Rebecca Mader, whose character Zelena was introduced among the show’s third season, will not be returning as regulars in the series.

As each of these stars has served as key players in the show’s plot up to this point, the series may not fair with the same level of success in their absence.

3. Hawaii Five-O

The eighth season of CBS’s Hawaii Five-O will be without long-time cast members Grace Park who played Kono Kalakaua and Daniel Dae Kim as Chin Ho Kelley.

The actors, who have been present on the show since its initial release in 2010, have chosen to depart from the series for reasons seemingly related to pay inequality as mentioned in greater detail on CNN.com.

However, according to CBS, the show’s September premiere will at least provide fans with an update on the status of Kim and Park’s characters.
