Motivating and Inspiring

There is nothing worse than trying to direct a group of employees who do not want to be at work and are bored with the projects they are tasked with. As a great boss, your job is to motivate your employees and inspire them to get their jobs done and do them well. This can be done by playing on your employees’ strengths when assigning certain projects and tasks. Also make sure to listen to their goals and see how you can help your employees achieve them.

Attentive

A great boss is involved with the employees they manage. This means that you ask for feedback from your employees and try to help in any way that you can. Don’t hide out in your office all of the time. This gives employees the impression that you think you are better than them and do not care about what they are doing.

Along with asking for feedback, you should also feel comfortable enough to give feedback to your employees. However, it’s important to provide feedback on both accomplishments and things they may need to work on.

Shares and Gives Credit Where Due

There are some people who will shamelessly take the credit of someone else’s work because they were the one who managed the project. Imagine working on a project for months and then having someone else say that they did all of the work. As a great boss, you should give credit where it’s due. When you are praised for an accomplishment, be sure to mention the other employees who helped make it happen. Not only will your employees trust you more, but they will feel motivated to keep doing great work for you because they will be recognized for it.

Delegates Well

Landing the role of a boss or manager means delegating work to employees. This can be difficult for some people who like things done a certain way, which can lead to micromanaging. When it comes to delegating work, the difference between a great boss and a bad boss is that a great boss will trust their employees to complete the task correctly without looking over their shoulder the entire time. It’s important to understand that everyone has different processes when it comes to completing a task at work and that should be respected as long as it is finished.

Communicative

Good communication is one quality a great boss absolutely must-have. When managing a group of people, everyone should be on the same page and understand exactly what is going on. This means clearly communicating expectations, deadlines, projects, and assignments to employees. It’s never a good idea to assume that one of your employees will take initiative to move on to the next step in a project if it has not been assigned to them.

To keep good communication, schedule routine meetings with your employees and send out well-written emails that leave little to no miscommunication and confusion.

Emotional Intelligence (EQ)

We’ve all heard of an IQ, but what is an EQ? EQ is emotional intelligence is the awareness of your emotions as well as others. This means that you can understand why someone feels or acts the way they do along with yourself. A great boss is able to manage their emotions, especially when it comes to a high-stress situation. Working on your emotional intelligence will also help you build stronger relationships with employees, which will lead them to feel more motivated and want to come to work.

Open-Minded

As a great boss, you must be open-minded. People will always have different opinions and suggestions when it comes to completing a project at work. Employees should feel comfortable making suggestions to you. Rather than shut them down immediately, take some time and think about if their suggestion really would be a better solution. In order to grow as a company, you have to be innovative and try new things, which requires you as a boss to be open-minded.

Be a Great Boss

Being a great boss means knowing how to manage your employees and make them feel motivated and inspired to come to work. This can easily be done by bosses with high emotional intelligence because they are able to manage emotions and are in tune with their employees. A great boss will also communicate well, especially when it comes to delegating work and providing feedback. Lastly, a great boss will be open-minded and will welcome new ideas from their employees while giving credit where it is due.
